Perception & Perspective – JP

I really have no idea what I’m talking about here. But I’m going to say it anyway.

One person’s trash is another’s treasure. Some people like chocolate others like vanilla. Dogs eat poop like I eat cookies; drooling and wild-eyed. Art and its perceived beauty are subjective; It’s in the eye of the beholder. There are some artists that use poop as an art media like paint or crayons. To some, this fecal art is immensely profound. To me, it’s just crap. The arts beauty is dependent on the observer, It’s about perspective. So too is the meaning of everyone’s own personal experience. Its value depends on how it makes you feel inside. The intrinsic value of the art or experience is only something the individual can quantify. I won’t explain my art because that, to me, seems pretentious and preachy. By trying to explain it I draw a box around it, or I confine/limit your own personal perception of it. It would be forcing my perspective on to you and telling you how to feel. To me that’s not what art is about, that’s not what life is about. I know where I’m coming from but I feel the audience needs to decide for themselves how they feel about it. I’m not going to spoon-feed anyone a reason or meaning. You have to draw your own conclusions (Pun intended). Whether you see garbage or beauty that is up to you. That is your right…have an opinion.
